News and entertainment worth sharing – York and North Yorkshire
A popular restaurant in York city centre is to close next week, it has announced.
Odin’s Plate, which served up a range of dishes on a Viking theme from The Hilt axe throwing centre on Goodramgate, will shut on Sunday, 4 September.
In an announcement on social media, founder Jacob Mayled said: “It’s with a heavy heart to announce that Odin’s Plate will be closing its doors for the last time Sunday the 4th of September.
“It’s a sad moment for us all, but our quest here is at an end.
“We would like to give a huge thank you to all our amazing customers, and to our shield-brothers at The Hilt for sharing this time with us.
“Come stop by one last time to give us a Viking sendoff.”

Odin’s Plate was launched in May 2021. It serves unique gourmet hot dogs, burgers and more, all on a Nordic theme.
On its first birthday, it said: “Opening a business fresh from Covid 19 certainly wasn’t well timed but we just felt it was an opportunity we’d be silly to miss.”
It has a five-star rating on TripAdvisor. One of the latest reviews reads: “The food here is so delicious it’s some of the best food I’ve ever tasted. Well worth a visit.
“York is very lucky to have such an amazing restaurant.”
No reason has been given for the closure. We have contacted the owners to find out more.
People were dismayed that Odin’s Plate is going.
“That is truly very sad news indeed. Absolutely love your food,” said one.
“I’m so sorry to hear this, but glad me and my son got to come in and experience Odin’s. Really great, and you’ll be missed!” said the Wizard Walk of York.
