It is George Kinoti, Kenya’s topmost sleuth, who avers that even the best of criminals leave a trace, something to help experts track them down.

Kinoti, the DCI head honcho, is best remembered for this sentiment at the height of a probe into the murder of one Tob Cohen, a tycoon whose wife was initially suspected of foul play.
Kinoti was speaking just after the discovery of Cohen’s body in a septic tank at his residence.
But his quote lives on long after Kenyans lost interest in the murder and are now in the throes of a bungled general election courtesy of one Wafula Chebukati and some three Venezuelan nationals.

You see, just as Kinoti said, the latter, smuggled into the country just before the polls, and briefly detained by police, raised hard questions that remain unanswered to date. Chebukati and Police boss Hilary Mutyambai reached a strange, opaque truce, whose exact details remain a mystery to this day.

UDA Win in Rongai Constituency Part of William Ruto’s Vendetta Against Moi Family
The three, it turned out, were part of an elaborate hacking plot aimed to ensure a win, come hell or high water, for William Ruto.
Let us ignore for now the fact that the foreigners had laptops that bore all the hallmarks of insiders at the IEBC, never mind the lies that they were here to help maintain the systems and servers.
While even Supreme Court judges have a problem understanding just what the trio was to do as part of “maintaining” the servers, it has emerged that they started their evil machinations to rig Ruto in at the expense of his main opponent, Raila Odinga.
According to evidence adduced at the Supreme Court, this they did through GPRS and remotely, by downloading forms, altering details and uploading stuff into IEBC systems.
One of such form was stamped by the villains on August 7, two days before the elections!

Obviously, these details have led lawyers and ICT folks to see the sheer, blatant, brazen stealing of votes that Kenya Kwanza engineered through Wabukati and the Venezuelan nations.
Like Kinoti said, even the best-laid plans often go wrong. In this case, the culprits left footprints, almost literally.
Symbolically, the footprints they left were a godsend like none other. And now, not even their paymasters can extricate themselves from the mess and imbroglio that has ensued.
Luckily for Kenyans, the truth is coming out. Slowly, the way a boil heals. And just like a boil, the pain must be endured first before relief can be found.
And judges at the Supreme Court, in the true spirit of the frizzled wigs that they at times don to symbolise wisdom, saw through the lies spewed by IEBC and Chebukati lawyers.
For instance, Justice Njoki Ndung’u sought to know what would happen in case Chebukati, who gazetted himself as a national presidential returning officer with no deputy, became insane, seriously unwell or actually died. Then what?

Justice Isaac Lenaola, for his part, wondered how forms initially photographed and sent in jpeg format could change to PDF format at the IEBC portals.
Without appearing to say so, these sentiments appear to poke holes in the defence raised by lawyers for Ruto, IEBC and Chebukati.
Indeed, some observers have opined that the biggest winner in the ongoing petitions is the average Kenyan, the mlala hoi, the hoi polloi, who has received a lot of legal and civic education.
This is premised on the notion that Kenyans are now the wiser. They have been wakened from a sort of slumber and must from now recall that the votes must not only be counted, but they must count as well.
IEBC lawyer Eric Gumbo told the Supreme Court that the Venezuelans were locked out of IEBC servers before the polls. Now, that is the real Hekaya za Abunuwasi. Folk tales.

Appointment of 22 Law Firms to Represent IEBC At Supreme Court an Act of Impunity
Well, the brilliant Julie Soweto who is also Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party lawyers have got IEBC and Ruto by the jugular. And only Supreme Court judges can grant a chance to slacken the grip if only to breathe.
Things are hard (for the greedy and guilty).
