The Global Alliance for Youth Nigeria on Wednesday unveiled its plans to empower 250, 000 Nigerian youths with employability skills, internship and mentoring opportunities in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Members of the Alliance are Nestlé Nigeria, Jobberman Nigeria, Sterling One Foundation, Big Bottling Company and the United Nations Global Compact.
The GAYN member companies disclosed this during a press conference in Lekki to inaugurate the joint initiatives aimed at tackling youth unemployment.
The Country Human Resources Manager, Nestlé Nigeria, Shakiru Lawal, said, “The Alliance plans to reach more than 250,000 young Nigerians with employability and entrepreneurial skills to enable them get gainful employment or set up businesses of their own within the next three years.”
Other members of the Alliance expressed their commitment to work in collaboration with policymakers, the government, and other stakeholders in developing solutions to address youth unemployment.

The Chief Executive Officer, Sterling One Foundation, Olapeju Ibekwe, said, “As we mark the International Youth Day, we look forward to the various innovative projects we will execute. Our internship and training programme will commence in the fourth quarter of 2021 and will be open to everyone. We will also create a quota for persons living with disabilities and observe gender equality.”

The Human Resources Manager, Big Bottling Company, Norena Francis, said, “Many youths lack entrepreneurship skills and a platform for them to have to imbue them with the right skills for the workplace.”
The Senior Manager, United Nations Global Compact, Tumi Onamade said, “We hope to reach youths in various parts of the country leveraging on social media and other means of communication. After the training programmes, they will be employed in spaces available in our companies.”
